Biografía de Christopher Lee

Christopher Lee nació en Londres, Inglaterra, el 27 de mayo de 1922. Su madre era condesa italiana y su padre un coronel del ejército británico. Pese a que en su infancia su familia estaba en una buena posición económica, Christopher tuvo que dejar sus estudios, lo que obligó a trabajar desde muy chico.

Este actor tuvo una trayectoria profesional de las más extensas que hayan existido en el mundo de la cinematografía contemporáneo. Interpretó papeles importantes como "Drácula" o "El Mago de la Tierra Media" que marcaron un antes y un después en la historia del cine.

En un principio, su carrera artística se orientaba hacia la música. Lee llegó a formar parte de los coros de la Ópera de Estocolmo, pero lo dejó porque no cobraba suficiente dinero. En 1947 firmó un contrato con una productora, y a partir de ahí no paró de hacer películas y series de televisión.

Christopher pasó varios años interpretando personajes secundarios hasta que en 1957 filmó "La maldición de Frankenstein" y un año más tarde interpreta al príncipe de las tinieblas en "Drácula". Considerado el relevo de Bela Lugosi, Lee no tardó en hacerse famoso.

Después de "Drácula" vinieron otros títulos donde el actor seguía encarnando al legendario vampiro u otros papeles similares. Eso le encasilló e impidió que pudiera ampliar su registro más allá del género fantástico. Con el tiempo, Lee consiguió demostrar su capacidad de interpretar a los personajes más variados, como FuManchú o Sherlock Holmes.

En su extensa carrera, con casi 300 producciones para cine y televisión, se destacan películas como "La momia" (1959), "Las dos caras del Dr. Jekyll" (1960), "La vida privada de Sherlock Holmes" (1970), "El regreso de los mosqueteros" (1989) o "Sleepy Hollow" (1999). Y en 2001, este gran conocedor de la obra de Tolkien aceptó interpretar, sin lugar a dudas, a Saruman, el mago que cae en manos del Mal en la trilogía de "El Señor de los Anillos".
